Mrs. Hawthorne is one of my favorite teachers at Sneads Elementary School. She makes everything fun, even when it’s work. Some say she’s strict, but I say different. Math is not my favorite subject, but Mrs. H. makes it interesting. For example, with times tables, she gave us sheets that have tongue twisters and the only way to figure out the tongue twister is to solve the times table. This really challenges us.
Mrs. Hawthorne doesn’t really care for football, baseball, basketball, or soccer. She’s a full-blown NASCAR fan. Her favorite driver is Dale Earnhart Jr. Even at school, she’s still crazy for car racing. Her whole classroom is covered with racecars.
Every time we read and take an AR test Mrs. H. puts our name and the book title on a racecar of every color, from red to purple. We have read over 300 books in our class so far. Every time we get another hundred, we throw a party to celebrate. We love her parties. Last time we had a party, she baked chocolate chip cookies and served us Pepsis with them. It was awesome.
Because Mrs. Hawthorne keeps things interesting, it is a lot more fun to learn. That’s what makes Mrs. Hawthorne a special teacher.
